Ukraine is expected to receive two additional French Mirage 2000 fighter jets by the end of the first half of 2026, bringing its total to four operational aircraft, according to independent journalist Romain Mielcarek on X.
The planned deliveries reflect continued efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s air capabilities. France’s support includes both aircraft and training, allowing Ukraine to operate the Mirage jets effectively within its wider air defence system.
Paris training new crews as fleet grows toward six jets
France will train Ukrainian pilots and ground crews for the new aircraft, with the eventual goal of operating six jets.
This follows previous reporting on France’s plans to expand Ukraine’s Mirage fleet, including the January 29 announcement that France may provide up to 26 aircraft.
Mirages intercept missiles and drones, not conduct strikes
Ukraine has so far used the aircraft primarily for air defense, intercepting cruise missiles and drones rather than conducting offensive strikes.
The Mirage 2000 is a French-built supersonic fighter jet first delivered to Ukraine in early 2025. Its speed and maneuverability make it particularly effective against fast-moving targets such as cruise missiles.
