The Czech-led ammunition initiative has delivered approximately 4.4 million large-caliber artillery shells to Ukraine since its launch, Czech President Petr Pavel said in an interview with Odkryto.cz published on 16 February.
Pavel described the program as vital for Ukraine’s defense, saying predictable ammunition supplies are essential for planning and sustaining military operations. Without the initiative, he said, Ukraine’s ability to conduct effective defensive actions would have been significantly complicated.
Program accounts for over half of Ukraine's ammunition supply
According to Pavel, the initiative accounted for more than 50% of all large-caliber ammunition supplied to Ukraine over the past period. Nearly 2 million shells were delivered in the past year alone.
Czechia initiated the scheme and coordinated partners, financing, procurement channels, and logistics to source ammunition globally and deliver it to Ukraine as quickly as possible. At least 15 allied countries are financially participating in the effort.
