Kyiv has received 323 generators from the European Union as part of a second delivery, bringing the total number of autonomous power sources from the EU to 500, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
"Kyiv received a second batch from the European Union — another 323 generators. The capital received them from EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Preparedness and Equality Adja Lybib, with the participation of First Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine Alona Shkrum," Klitschko stated.
The equipment consists of 438 generators with 20 kW capacity and 62 generators with 22 kW capacity. The power sources come from the EU's strategic civil protection reserve rescEU through the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) under the Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO). The EU fully finances deliveries from the rescEU reserve, with coordination by the European Commission.
Klitschko explained that the first batch of 177 generators has already been deployed to power individual heating points in residential buildings where such connection is possible. "We will use the second batch mainly for powering heating points as well. We thank our European partners for this critically needed assistance during the energy crisis in Ukraine and Kyiv," the mayor emphasized.
Previously, after Klitschko appealed to foreign partners to help Kyiv overcome the emergency situation caused by Russian strikes on the capital's critical infrastructure, the city received over 200 generators from Poland, 30 generators from France, 177 generators from the EU, as well as a mobile boiler house and generators from Copenhagen.
The equipment is being connected to critical infrastructure facilities, social institutions, and residential buildings to restore water, heating, and electricity to residents as quickly as possible.
