The European Commission maintains continuous communication with Ukrainian and American delegations participating in trilateral talks with Russia in Abu Dhabi, according to the Commission's chief spokesperson Paula Pinho.
"Yes, we are in touch – both before and after (the negotiations)," Pinho confirmed Ukrainian media such as Suspilne and European Pravda.
The spokesperson specified that the European Commission "maintains contact with the Ukrainian and American delegations who are present (at the negotiations) to learn about the progress of these discussions."
The trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia concluded on 24 January, according to Diana Davityan, spokesperson for National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov. Presidential advisor Dmytro Lytvyn stated that the delegation is expected to report to President Zelenskyy on how the negotiations proceeded.
Umerov said the meeting on 23 January addressed parameters for ending the war and "further logic" of the negotiation process. Following the sessions, the parties agreed to continue consultations on 1 February.
A source told Russian state news agency TASS that "it cannot be said that the meeting on Ukraine in Abu Dhabi passed without results, there are some." The same source indicated that dialogue in the trilateral format "may be continued in the coming days."
Reuters reported, citing a UAE government representative, that the negotiations took place "in a constructive and positive atmosphere."
Territorial issues feature among the negotiation topics. Ukraine insists on discussing territories based on the current line of contact, while Russia continues to demand the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the unoccupied part of Donetsk Oblast.
