Russia lost over 418,000 troops in Ukraine during 2025 – General Staff

The General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces released a summary of Russian military losses for the year 2025. According to the official report, Russian forces sustained 418,170 casualties, including both killed and wounded, over the twelve-month period.

The General Staff said "every destroyed occupier and every burnt tank brings us closer to a just peace." The military command attributed the scale of the losses to the "resilience and coordinated professional work of all components of the Defense Forces."

Annual hardware and aviation losses

The General Staff’s year-end tally detailed the following losses for Russian forces:

  • Armor: 1,816 tanks and 3,806 armored fighting vehicles.
  • Artillery and air defense: 14,146 artillery systems, 331 multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), and 234 air defense systems.
  • Aviation: 65 fixed-wing aircraft and 17 helicopters.
  • Vehicles: 39,743 units of automotive equipment and fuel tanks, plus 363 units of special equipment.

The report also recorded the destruction of one Russian submarine during the year.

Interceptions of unmanned systems and missiles

The data also reflects the intensity of the aerial campaign conducted throughout 2025. Ukrainian forces reportedly intercepted or destroyed:

  • 77,322 operational-level unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
  • 1,133 cruise missiles.

The report concludes by noting that while the losses are extensive, the "struggle continues" into 2026. The General Staff expressed gratitude to all personnel for their "professional combat work" in defending the country.
