Ukrainian drones hit two Russian oil facilities overnight on 31 December 2025, sparking major fires in Tuapse, Krasnodar Krai, and Yaroslavl Oblast. A refinery and port on the Black Sea coast and a central Russian oil depot were both damaged in coordinated strikes confirmed by Russian sources.

The two attacks — 1500 km apart — hit the sites critical for the Russian oil industry. Such air assaults are part of Ukraine's ongoing deep-strike campaign, targeting Russians oil processing and distribution facilities, at degrading Russia’s fuel logistics.

Ukrainian drones strike Tuapse refinery and port

Ukraine targeted oil infrastructure in the coastal city of Tuapse — about 550 km from the warzone — in southern Russia's Krasnodar Krai with unmanned aerial vehicles. Russian authorities confirmed damage to the port pier and a refinery operated by Rosneft. Videos from the scene showed flames rising several meters after the strike.

The fire on one of the port piers was promptly extinguished. The fire on the refinery’s premises was also extinguished, covering an area of 300 square meters,” the Krasnodar Krai operational headquarters claimed.

Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova+ shared geolocated footage of the fire at coordinates 44.1082938828569, 39.10194463778907. The channel reported that the AVT-12 unit was burning. This unit is a key node for atmospheric-vacuum crude distillation at the refinery, with an estimated capacity of about 12 million tons annually.

The Tuapse Oil Refinery in Krasnodar Krai is operated by RN-Tuapse Oil Refinery LLC and forms a single production complex with Rosneft’s maritime terminal, RN-Maritime Terminal Tuapse LLC. Both are part of the Rosneft oil company.

Pro-Kremlin Telegram channel Shot claimed that 15–20 explosions were heard over Tuapse during the attack.

According to Militarnyi, this is at least the eighth Ukrainian strike on the Tuapse refinery and Rosneft export terminal since the start of the full-scale war. The previous attack occurred in November 2025. Several past strikes forced temporary shutdowns of the facility.

Oil depot in Yaroslavl Oblast also hit

A second drone strike hit an oil facility in Yaroslavl Oblast, northeast of Moscow and about 700 km from Ukraine. Exilenova+ posted video of a fire in Kopayevo and reported a hit on a fuel depot. The Telegram channel Falcon Insight later geolocated the camera’s position to coordinates 58.0250338045, 38.9452206420, confirming the strike.

Residents of nearby Rybinsk reported explosions, and the governor declared a drone threat, while eyewitnesses said that fuel reservoirs were on fire, Russian Telegram channel Astra says.

Falcon Insight identified the target as the "Kombinat Temp." The Federal State Treasury Institution Kombinat Temp is a facility within the Rosreserve network and is intended for fuel storage.

Rybinsk, the area of the attack, sits on a major river system — the Volga — and has active railway connections. It described the site as a vital hub for storing and distributing petroleum products in central Russia.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that 86 Ukrainian UAVs were shot down overnight across Russia and occupied Crimea, including 5 over Krasnodar Krai.
