“Nothing sacred for them”: Zelenskyy warns Russia may target Ukraine with massive strike during Christmas holidays

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that the key issue discussed at the 22 December meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters was protecting Ukraine from possible large-scale Russian attacks during the Christmas period, UkrInform reports.

This comes as the US ramps up peace initiatives under President Donald Trump, who has pushed for a rapid peace deal and said that Russia wants peace. Zelenskyy's meeting highlights the gap between this rhetoric and Moscow's actions.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Telegram channels are warning of a possible attack tonight.

Air defense is the top priority at the Headquarters meeting

According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian intelligence and military command take into account Russia’s typical tactic of striking the Ukrainians on holidays.

“We understand that precisely on these days they may act, and it is in their nature, to carry out some kind of massive strike exactly on our Christmas,” the Ukrainian president stresses.

He specifies that 23–25 December are a particular focus of attention, and that protecting cities, towns, and communities with air defense systems is defined as the number one priority.

Call for civilian vigilance

The Ukrainian president notes that the military has already been given the necessary tasks, but he also emphasized the responsibility of civilians.

“People should be especially attentive on these days, because these ‘comrades’ may carry out such strikes. There is nothing sacred for them,” Zelenskyy says.

Thus, the state is preparing for possible Russian provocations and attacks, while Ukrainians are urged to be maximally attentive to air raid alerts during the Christmas period.
