Russian forces used Easter truce to rotate units and stage provocations, Ukrainian commander reports

Major Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for Ukraine's Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Grouping, says the so-called "ceasefire" on Ukraine’s eastern front was little more than a temporary decrease in fighting aimed at setting the stage for renewed offensives, ArmyInform has reported.

The so-called Eastern truce lasted 30 hours in Ukraine. However, during that time Ukraine recorded at least 2,000 violations and assaults on the front lines, which resulted in casualties. In the early hours of the truce, Russia launched over 90 drones on Ukraine and killed a 72-year-old civilian in Kherson Oblast by deliberately dropping a munition from a drone.

According to Trehubov, combat intensity dropped by two to three times, but hostilities have not ceased. Instead, Russian forces have used the lull to rotate units and stage provocations designed to lure Ukrainian forces into breaking the ceasefire.

"There were maneuvers right in front of our positions — movements that resembled assaults but approached under what appeared to be a white flag. It looked like a deliberate attempt to provoke a visible breach of the ceasefire, to make us strike first," Trehubov said.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Air Force destroyed a Russian drone launch site in Kursk Oblast, killing up to 20 unmanned aerial vehicle operators, the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported.

On 19 April, a Ukrainian airstrike hit a facility near Tyotkino, used by Russian forces to prepare, equip, and launch reconnaissance, attack, and FPV drones.
