Syrskyi: Ukrainian Forces currently holding back one of Russia’s most powerful offensives since 2022

Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine’s Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said that Ukrainian forces currently contain “one of the most powerful Russian offensives since the full-scale invasion began.”

During his meeting with a Czech military delegation, Syrskyi said that the situation on the front line remains complex.

Russian forces are continuing their ground offensive in eastern Ukraine, making steady territorial gains and capturing villages near key frontline cities. While incremental, Russian advances have secured several settlements in recent months, particularly around Avdiivka, which fell to Russian forces in February 2024 after months of intense fighting.

Ukraine’s military reported 145 combat engagements over the past day, with the Kurakhove direction seeing the heaviest fighting, where Defense Forces repelled 52 attacks.

According to the commander, active combat operations continuing in certain directions require constant resource renewal for Ukrainian units.

Military analyst Kovalenko said that Russian forces will likely concentrate their main efforts in the Selydove area and Kurakhove direction soon.

The DeepState analytical project reported on 23 October that Russian forces occupied Novosadove village in Donetsk Oblast and advanced Selydove in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk Oblast.

ISW reported on 22 October that Russia captured three villages near Kurakhove.

For over a year, Russia has concentrated on seizing Ukraine-controlled areas of Donetsk Oblast, with major attacks repeatedly occurring near Pokrovsk, Selydove, and other towns.
