The UK and Germany are preparing to equip Ukrainian Sea King helicopters with advanced missile systems. According to Militarnyi, the helicopters may be armed with either Brimstone or Marte ER missiles, substantially enhancing their offensive capabilities.
The UK Government announced on 23 October that specialist teams and defense industries would work closely to ensure Ukraine’s success.
“In the short term, we will collectively provide Ukraine with a new offensive capability, supporting fitting German donated Sea King Helicopters with modern missile systems,” the UK Government statement read.
The Brimstone 2 missile, developed by the international MBDA consortium for the British Royal Air Force, offers impressive specifications. With a range exceeding 40 kilometers and a warhead weighing 6.3 kg, these missiles have already been adapted for ground-based launches in Ukraine.
Alternatively, the Marte ER anti-ship missile presents another upgrade option. Significantly modernized from previous generations, it features a turbine engine that extends its range from 25 to over 100 kilometers.
