NATO representative in Ukraine: Russia escalates hybrid attacks against Alliance

Russia continues to target NATO and the West with a wide range of hybrid tactics, NATO Senior Representative in Ukraine, Patrick Turner, told in an interview with Ukrinform.

Turner highlighted that Russia is using espionage to interfere in Western politics, but he emphasized that these actions will not deter NATO from supporting Ukraine.

“Recently, we have witnessed a more aggressive, active, and overt use of hybrid tactics by Russia, including sabotage, cyberattacks, weaponizing migrants, attacks on critical infrastructure in individual countries, and posing a threat to underwater infrastructure,” the diplomat stated.

Turner added that Russia is targeting Western countries one by one and the “group of democracies that, in general, wish Russia no harm.”

When answering a question about how the Alliance plans to combat the Kremlin’s hybrid attacks, the diplomat said that NATO has agreed on a set of potential measures that could be taken in response to such attacks.

“Some actions are coordinated collectively, while others are taken by particular member states. However, if any nation deliberately targets NATO countries, they will be held accountable. This applies not only to Russia but to any other players involved,” Turner emphasized.

Earlier, the NATO senior representative in Ukraine said that the Alliance currently sees no serious risk of nuclear escalation by Russia despite Moscow’s continued nuclear threats.
