Estonian spy chief warns: Russia must be strategically defeated

Kaupo Rosin, Estonia’s top intelligence official, cautioned that even a partial Russian victory in its war would prolong the conflict, urging the West to ensure Ukraine has sufficient military support to decisively defeat Moscow.

Estonian spy chief warns: Russia must be strategically defeated

Head of Estonia’s Foreign Intelligence Service Kaupo Rosin says that even if the war is frozen in Ukraine, the military aggression will not be over, according to Deutsche Welle.

Rosin has emphasized that Ukraine’s victory is essential for long-term peace. He has also mentioned that in the war of attrition ongoing in Ukraine, the side with more will and resources will ultimately prevail. This requires additional weapons and support to Kyiv from the West.

“I am convinced that the current Russian regime must be strategically defeated. Because even if Putin partially achieves his goals, we believe he will continue. Thus, the war in Ukraine will not end in the medium term, even if at some point we reach a frozen conflict or something like that,” said Rosin.

He has disagreed with the views of Western politicians who wish to quickly achieve a diplomatic resolution to the military conflict in Ukraine and compromise with Russia, believing that a reset of relations with Moscow is possible or even inevitable.

“It is clear that Ukraine needs additional weapons and additional ammunition. Therefore, we should not in any way restrain ourselves in supporting Ukraine with any types of weapons or ammunition that they need,” stressed Rosin.

Earlier, Estonia Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said the country intended to order weapons to assist Ukraine from its own defense-industrial complex.

This year, Estonia will provide Ukraine with military aid worth about 100 million euros, which equals 0.25% of Estonia’s gross domestic product.
