Ukraine targets Russia’s guided bomb warehouses and aircraft in Voronezh Oblast airfield attack

Ukrainian defense forces reportedly conducted a drone attack on the Borisoglebsk airfield in Russia's Voronezh Oblast during the early hours of 3 October, according to a source in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) who spoke to Ukrainian media outlet Liga.

The Borisoglebsk air base is about 300 kilometers from Ukraine's Kharkiv Oblast. The facility is home to Russian fighter jets, used to target Ukraine's northern regions with guided bombs. Ukrainian drones often target Russian military facilities inside Russia to degrade Russian military logistics and capabilities.

The source revealed that drones from the SBU, the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and other defense forces targeted warehouses containing guided aviation bombs, parking areas for Su-35 and Su-34 aircraft, and aviation fuel storage facilities at the military airfield.

The SBU source noted that the Russians actively use this airfield to launch bombing missions with guided bombs against Ukrainian territories. According to the source, Russians reported on social media about air defense activations, numerous drone flyovers, and powerful explosions followed by a fire in the vicinity of the local airfield.

NASA FIRMS satellite monitoring system detected several fire hotspots on the premises of the facility, supporting claims of a successful attack.
