The German government has announced it will increase Ukraine’s military support funding by nearly €400 million, according to Babel.
The new assistance will allow the purchase of additional air defense systems, tanks, drones, ammunition, and spare parts for the Ukrainian military. In addition, Berlin will allocate an additional €170 million in the short term to restore Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Germany announced the new aid to Ukraine on 25 September at the second meeting of the 79th UN General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, the participants reaffirmed their solidarity with Ukraine in its struggle against Russia and their determination to continue military, financial, and humanitarian support for as long as necessary.
Germany is one of the countries that has sent the most extensive military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine since 2022.
Berlin has delivered Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks with various modifications to Kyiv, IRIS-T, and Patriot air defense systems, M142 HIMARS rocket systems, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, and a large number of armored cars and trucks to the Ukrainian military.
