Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet with key US political figures next week, including President Joe Biden, Republican candidate Donald Trump, and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. The primary focus of these meetings will be the presentation of what he refers to as Ukraine’s Victory Plan, according to statements from Zelenskyy and reports from various sources.
In his daily address to the nation on 18 September, Zelenskyy announced that the Victory Plan is now fully prepared.
“All points, all key accents, and necessary appendices with details to the Plan have been defined. Everything has been worked out,” Zelenskyy stated. He emphasized that the most important aspect now is the determination to implement the plan, adding: “There is and can be no alternative to peace, no freezing of the war or any other manipulations that will simply transfer Russian aggression to another stage.”
The Ukrainian president had previously claimed on 16 September that the “Victory Plan” was 90% ready, and the following day, he announced that the plan would have a “strong” military component.
Specific details of the plan remain undisclosed, and no public debate has taken place. Bloomberg says, referring to unnamed people familiar with the matter, that in the US, Zelenskyy is expected to push for NATO and European Union membership, economic and security agreements, and a continued supply of more advanced weapons.
According to Bloomberg, Zelenskyy is set to present the plan to Biden during their meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly later this month.
Kamala Harris, who has strongly supported Biden’s steadfast support of Ukraine, plans to meet with Zelenskyy in Washington next week, as reported by Bloomberg citing a person familiar with the matter.
Trump, who has consistently described US aid to Ukraine as a waste of money, confirmed on 18 September that he may meet with Zelenskyy, saying “probably, yes” in response to a reporter’s question, as reported by Reuters. This potential meeting is notable as Trump and Zelenskyy have not met in person since Trump’s 2017-2021 term.
