Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on 25 September, reports Voice of America.
According to VoA, the war in Ukraine and international support for the country are expected to be the main topics of discussion.
Zelenskyy plans to present a victory plan to Western partners, including US President Joe Biden and potential US election candidates such as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
British officials view the gathering as an opportunity to align on key issues regarding continued support for Ukraine.
“It’s important that allies supporting Ukraine have a common strategy,” British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized in a 15 September television interview.
A significant point of discussion will be the use of long-range weapons supplied by Western countries against targets deep within Russian territory. Several nations, including the Netherlands, Latvia, Canada, Norway, Germany, and Denmark, have reportedly authorized such strikes, while Italy opposes them.
EU High Representative Josep Borrell believes that Western-supplied weapons should be used to their full extent, including for strikes deep into Russia. Ukraine has provided the United States with a list of potential targets in Russia, seeking to persuade the White House to lift restrictions on weapons use.
During an 11 September meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Kyiv, Zelenskyy urged the removal of these restrictions. Blinken promised to convey Ukraine’s message to President Biden.
The UN General Assembly debates begin on 24 September, with US President Joe Biden scheduled to speak that day. Zelenskyy’s address will follow on 25 September.
