Spanish arms manufacturer proposes to produce 50 infantry fighting vehicles for Ukraine

General Dynamics European Land Systems says it may produce 50 ASCOD infantry fighting vehicles for Ukraine within 2024, according to Infodefensa.

Santa Bárbara Sistemas, a part of General Dynamics’ European division, a Spanish armored vehicle manufacturer, has informed the Spanish government about the possibility of producing vehicles annually at its Trubia plant.

The announcement followed a recently signed defense agreement with Ukraine, under which Spain guaranteed support worth $1 billion. However, another outlet, El Comercio, reports that the Spanish Ministry of Defense has not yet approved the proposal.

The enterprise performs the full production cycle of the vehicles, from cutting sheet metal to assembling the finished vehicle and integrating various weapon systems.

The Spanish vehicle production faces serious competition in Ukraine, as the Swedish CV90, which is already actively engaged in combat, and the German KF41 Lynx, for which Rheinmetall is building a plant in Ukraine, are also being considered as future infantry fighting vehicles for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
