Sikorski urges US to expedite aid for Ukraine, Israel after Iran’s attack on Israel

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has called on the US Congress to expedite the approval of an aid package for Ukraine and Israel following Iran’s attack on the latter. He expressed this in a post on X/Twitter, commending Israel for repelling a significant Iranian air attack from various directions. Sikorski emphasized the urgency of enhancing Israel’s missile defense and equipping Ukraine with similar systems.

US Congressional Republicans have been blocking the US foreign aid package for more than six months. The package includes military assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The Senate approved a $95 billion bill in February, allocating over $60 billion for Ukraine, but House Speaker Mike Johnson has delayed bringing it to a vote, citing the need not to rush. There is no set date for a House vote yet. Moreover, House Republicans are considering amendments or drafting a new version, which would require Senate re-approval following the vote.

Bravo, Israel, for repelling a major Iranian air assault from several directions. Now it would be useful to strengthen Israel’s missile defense and equip Ukraine with similar systems. The easiest way to do this is to unblock the US aid package to Ukraine and Israel,” the Polish Foreign minister wrote.

Earlier, House Republican Majority Leader Steve Scalise said that next week the House of Representatives would urgently put to a vote a bill to help Israel after Iran’s attack on the country, not mentioning the Ukraine aid.
