After intense fighting that began in August 2022, Russian forces have breached the defenses of the 59th Rifle Battalion and occupied the village of Pervomayske, one of the hottest points in the ongoing war, according to Ukrainian grassroots analytical portal Deep State Map. The village had a pre-war population of over 2,000.
Pervomayske is located close to the city of Avdiivka, which the Russians captured in February of this year, continuing to advance in the villages around Avdiivka.
Since the start of 2024, Russian forces have maintained a 7:1 artillery advantage along the frontline. Additionally, Russian aircraft have dropped over 3,500 air bombs, a 16-fold increase from the previous year.
