The Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Lt. Gen. Oleksandr Pavliuk, stated that Russia is forming new military groups totaling over 100.000 troops.
“It doesn’t necessarily mean it will be an offensive. Perhaps they will use them to replenish their units that are losing combat capability. But there is a probability that by the beginning of summer they may have sufficient forces to conduct corresponding offensive operations in one of the directions,” said Pavliuk.
Ukraine is preparing for different scenarios.
“We have started this process, part of the forces and means are being withdrawn to recovery areas to allow the people to rest, recuperate, re-equip and start new operations with renewed strength,” the Commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces stated.
Commenting on the current situation at the front, Pavliuk said it’s too early to claim the Russian offensive is slowing down, as fighting continues in the Lyman, Bakhmut and Avdiivka areas. Neither side has a clear advantage currently in this positional warfare phase, though Russia has more resources for now.
Ukraine and Russia are experiencing some tactical successes and setbacks. Pavliuk stated “A positional war is ongoing, as long as we cannot gain an advantage; the enemy has more resources, but everything has its time.”
