The Danish Ministry of Defense has unveiled a substantial military aid package, valued at approximately 1.7 billion Danish kroner ($247 million), to support Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s full-scale invasion. Denmark’s 15th military aid package includes artillery ammunition, ammunition for Ukraine’s air defense systems, mine-clearing equipment, and drones.
Earlier, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced that Denmark would transfer all of its artillery to Ukraine and called on European states to provide ammunition and air defense systems to the Ukrainian armed forces, as “they need them more now.”
“Ukraine continues to have a great need for support, not least artillery ammunition. With the 15th Donation Package, Denmark is financially contributing to the purchase of weapons and ammunition, both through other countries, including the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, and through the continuation of the good and important cooperation with the Danish defense industry,” Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said.
According to the statement, through contact with the Czech Ministry of Defense, the Danish Ministry of Defense has financed the acquisition of 15,000 units of 155 mm artillery ammunition, which will be delivered to Ukraine within a few months.
“The continued military support for Ukraine is absolutely crucial for the outcome of the war. Therefore, I am pleased that, in collaboration with close partners and with broad support from the Folketing, we are now making another significant contribution to the Ukrainians on the battlefield, who are fighting for not just Ukraine’s freedom, but the security of all of Europe,” Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated.
Additionally, the aid package includes equipment and ammunition for Ukraine’s air defense, mine-clearing operations, and drones, featuring radars, communication equipment, and drone equipment from Danish companies.
“I am pleased that so many Danish companies support Ukraine’s defense struggle. I am in ongoing discussions with representatives from the Danish defense industry about how we can better utilize the business sector’s knowledge and capacity in relation to military donations to Ukraine. Danish-produced material is highly sought after by Ukraine,” Poulsen added.
The Danish 15th defense aid package for Ukraine is to be allocated in 2024-2026, the Danish Ministry of Defense specified.
