Commander Tarnavskyi denies “complete capture” of Marinka by Russians

Reports on Russia’s capture of Marinka in Donetsk Oblast were refuted by Ukraine’s Tavria Operational and Strategic Grouping Commander, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, on 13 December.

Mariinka was a town west of occupied Donetsk, which the Russian troops have been trying to seize for many months. Currently, most of Marinka has been reduced to rubble by the Russian artillery and air attacks and controlled by the Russian forces.

He revealed that in the Marinka sector, the Ukrainian forces continued to hold the Russians back near Novomykhailivka and Krasnohorivka next to Marinka, and repelled 11 Russian attacks the previous day.

“The enemy is amassing forces in the vicinity of Marinka for further assault operations. It continues to spread information and provocations about the alleged complete capture of the town. The defense of Marinka continues,” Tarnavskyi wrote on Telegram messenger.

Russian sources claimed the capture of Mariinka on 12 December.
