The Armed Forces of Ukraine have liberated more than 168,6 square kilometers of territory from the Russian forces on the southern front since the beginning of the counteroffensive operations, Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Hanna Maliar announced on 10 July.
Ukraine’s Armed Forces conducted successful offensive and defensive operations on both the eastern and southern fronts within the past week, according to Hanna Maliar.
On the eastern front, which covers the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, the Ukrainian troops improved their operational and tactical situation. At this point, the territory liberated by Ukraine’s Armed Forces on the eastern front amounts to 24 square kilometers. Russian forces launched 7,184 attacks on Ukrainian troops in this sector, using 343,402 artillery and rocket shells against the Ukrainian positions, according to Hanna Maliar.
“In Bakhmut, our defenders have been keeping the enemy’s entrances, exits, and movements in the city under fire control for several days,” Hanna Maliar said. “This became possible because our troops took control of the main dominant heights around Bakhmut,” Maliar added.
The Ukrainian forces advanced deeper into the Russian-controlled areas on the southern front, which covers the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts and the southwestern part of the Donetsk Oblast. Russian forces make attempts to counterattack and regain the lost ground.
“In total, 4,318 enemy attacks were recorded in the Tauride sector [southern front] over the past week,” Maliar said.
Within the last week, Ukrainian troops liberated 10,2 square kilometers on the southern front and conducted more than 79 strikes on the areas of concentration of Russian personnel.
