In his daytime address on 22 June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warns that Russia is considering carrying out a false flag terrorist attack at Ukraine’s Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant involving a release of radiation. The Zaporizhzhia NPP is Europe’s largest nuclear plant.
“We have just had a report from our [Main Directorate of] Intelligence and the Security Service of Ukraine. Intelligence has received information that Russia is considering a scenario of a terrorist attack at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, a terrorist attack with a radiation release. They have prepared everything for this,” Zelenskyy says.
Previously, Chief of Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov said that Russia mined the Zaporizhzhia NPP’s cooling system
In his address, Zelenskyy said Ukraine is sharing the available intelligence with all of its partners and “everyone in the world.”
“Europe, America, China, Brazil, India, the Arab world, Africa – all countries, absolutely everyone should know this. International organizations. All of them. There should never be any terrorist attacks on nuclear power plants anywhere. This time it shouldn’t be like Kakhovka [dam destruction]: the world has been warned, so the world can and should act,” he added.
Another topic of the report was the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam by Russia earlier this month. The intelligence agencies have “gathered new evidence of how Russian terrorists blew up the dam and other structures of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, which was a completely deliberate and calculated crime.”
