In Saky, dozen Russian planes could be destroyed, Ukraine’s Air Force assumes
The Air Force of Ukraine assumes that as a result of the 9 August explosions at the airfield in the Russia-occupied Crimea, a warehouse of aviation weapons and possibly a dozen aircraft could be destroyed. Saky is a military airfield in Crimea, where the Russian occupiers stationed Su-30SM, Su-24, IL-76, and other aircraft, Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of Ukraine said on Ukrainian TV. Ihnat added that 24/7 Russian aviation patrols the airspace near Ukraine. Without flying to Zmiyinyi (Snake) Island, Russians patrol the Black Sea, changing only planes and crews. In total, there are 5 airfields in Crimea that the Russian Federation can use to take off planes and launch missile strikes on Ukraine, and this poses a big threat, in addition to dozens of airfields in Belarus and Russia itself, Ihnat added.
"According to the explosion [on 9 August], it is clear from the video footage that the aircraft weapons depot was hit because the detonation was serious. And if a dozen planes are additionally destroyed there, then it will be a real small victory," Ihnat said.
