Artists from all over the world are preparing a surprise for Ukrainian kids. In the summer before the 2017/2018 school year, they are transforming the gray walls of schools, kindergartens, and constructions nearby into colorful art objects. The project, called “Back to school,” was organized by the Mural Social Club and supported by UNICEF. It takes place in Kyiv, Odesa, Popasna, Kharkiv, Kovel, Volnovaha, Popasna, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kremenchuh and other cities.
This work in Popasna, a city near the frontline of east Ukrainian Luhansk Oblast, where warfare between the Ukrainian army and combined Russian-separatist forces is ongoing, opened the project on June 1, International Children’s Day.
Oleh Sosnov, the curator of the project, thinks that modern art has a positive influence on the development, esthetic education, and worldview of children who in everyday life rarely see modern art and examples of creative urbanism.
We collected some examples of the project’s works.
