Pope Francis meets with Ukrainian servicemen in Vatican


Pope Francis met with Ukrainian soldiers during his general audience on St. Peter's Square in Vatican on Wednesday, May 24.

"I will not stop praying to the Lord for peace for the dear Ukrainian land," the Pope pronounced at the end of the general hearing.

The Ukrainian military delegation, which participated in the 59th international military pilgrimage in Lourdes (France), consisted of veterans wounded in the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, servicemen of the National Guard and Ukrainian Army, students of the Sahaydachnyi National Academy of the Army, the Academy of State Border Service of Ukraine, military chaplains, and families of soldiers. The Ukrainian delegation was led by Mikhaylo Koltun of the Ukrainian-Greek Catholic Church.

On the visit with Pope Francis, the Ukrainian delegation presented the multimedia project "The Victors" dedicated to soldiers and volunteers who were mutilated in the Donbas war, but who did not lose strength and want to return to a fulfilling life.
