In October, Ukraine decreased gas consumption by 27% compared to the same period the year before, reports the State Statistics Service.
According to their data, during this period of time, coal consumption has decreased by 34,5%.
In October the Cabinet of Ministers approved the plan to decrease gas consumption by 2017. The plan outlines short-term and mid-term measures to decrease gas consumption by heat supply companies, industrial consumers, state institutions and the population.
This year, gas consumption is expected at 25 billion cubic meters.
On October 30, Russia and Ukraine, with the mediation of the European Union, agreed to renew supplies of Russian gas to Kyiv in winter, and approved their conditions until March of 2015. According to the agreements, Naftogaz will pay 3,1 billion USD to pay for 11,5 billion cubic meters of gas Gazprom supplied in November-December of the previous year and April-June of the current year, at the price of 268,5 USD per thousand cubic meters, Ukraine had insisted on.
Russia fully suspended gas supplies to Ukraine in June. Since then, trilateral Ukraine-EU-Russia talks have been conducted regularly.
Ukraine is developing reverse routes to import gas from European countries.
