Antin Mukharsky: “War has been going on for a long time”

Kyiv – Actor, TV anchor, author of Zhlobologiya and Maidan (R)evolution of Spirit art projects Anrin Mukharsky told the journalists about the importance of artistic work during revolution and about the premonition of civil war.

Antin explains the importance of the artists’ part with the fact that they express current events in their art in a timely, personal manner, thus creating materials for history.

“An artist is an insect of sorts, especially in Ukraine. Poets, artists – they have always served the government. Only now is a new quality of artist being born. An artist who is an individual, who can launch a discussion in society. What happened on Maidan, the fact that the artists were the first to come out and throw the Molotov cocktail, is a unique occurrence, which should become a classical example of what artists are capable of. There are different kinds of artists. Some are introverted, some are socially active,” says Antin Mukharsky.

History repeats itself

Mukharsky thinks that the current events in Ukraine are a repetition of century-old events.

“We have an absolute repeat of the situation almost a hundred years ago,” he notes. “The most important thing now is to correct this mistake. When a hundred years ago, there was an army of four million in Ukraine, but because of the pacifism of former People’s Republic of Ukraine leaders, the army was disbanded, and it did not pose the goal of freeing Ukraine, it did not want to fight anyone. This is a lesson that went ignored in history. And this is why this story repeated itself, if we don’t learn this lesson now, we will be sent back a hundred years again. We cannot go without war, because a new type of person was born in Ukraine, one that is dangerous for Putin’s Russia.”

The premonition of civil war

War began a long time ago, Antin Mukharsky thinks, almost since 2004, back when the first Maidan happened and President Yushchenko came to power.

“It first began at the ideological level. We were constantly on the borderline somewhere. War went on in the Verkhovna Rada, on TV screens, at exhibitions. Back in 2009 there was an exhibition called ‘Premonition of Civil War.’ On one hand, Donetsk artist Roman Minin, as an established paradigm of the miner ideology, on the other – Igor Pereklita, a radical Banderite artist.”

The singer notes that the artist has a special role now – the support of the people fighting in the East.

At the end of the press conference at Glavcom information agency, Antin Mukharsky sang the patriotic song by Orest Liutiy which the soldiers like very much.
