During the last two weeks, military formations under the control of the military intelligence service Spetsnaz GRU are being replaced in eastern Ukraine by mercenaries arriving from Russia. This was reported on his Facebook page by Dmytro Tymchuk, Director of the Centre for Military and Political Studies.
According to Tymchuk, these are military reserve units with experience in the Russian Spetsnaz and experienced in taking part in combat operations (in particular, in the Caucasus).
“The Russian government is selecting such professionally trained mercenaries throughout the Russian Federation. In the last three weeks, reserve soldiers who served in the Spetsnaz GRU have been summoned by local registration and enlistment boards as far as Khabarovsk Krai; they are offered a good salary in return for going to Ukraine to participate in terrorist activities.” he wrote.
According to Tymchuk, the most active mobilization work is being carried out in the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation. “At the same time, Russia has launched a powerful process of dispatching weapons to terrorist groups in the Donbas.” remarks Tymchuk.
In addition, he reported that, as many enterprises have closed and unemployment has risen steadily in the Donbas, local residents are more and more encouraged to take part in terrorist activities for money. Tymchuk also notes that there are many questions with regard to local police forces. “Unfortunately, most of the local law enforcement officers are saboteurs and traitors living at the expense of ordinary people whose interests they openly betray.” he writes.
Tymchuk states that these “law enforcement officers” are a major resource for extremist forces. “If these traitors continue to serve in the forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, they will constitute an enormous threat to our country. However, if we discharge these traitors en masse, we can expect them to swell the ranks of local terrorist groups.” summed up Tymchuk.
