Ukrainians render Kostyantin Olshanskyy inoperable

Tuesday, March 25, 2014, 11:05

Before the assault on the part of the Russians, the crew of the large landing ship Kostyantin Olshanskyy managed to damage its engine and electronics. Dumska reports that a source in the Naval Forces of Ukraine states that the Ukrainian sailors filled the engine of the ship with cement mortar (or with sand, according to another source). Also, they broke the navigation equipment and fire control devices.

As a result, the Russians had to tow the captured Olshanskyy to the base. The Black Sea Fleet will have to pay through the nose for the repair or to simply process it for scrap, Dumska reports. “The ship’s crew, including Commander Dmytro Kovalenko, was delivered to Simferopol. It is possible that they will face repressions,” Dumska suggests.
