One of the most influential warlords in the Russian occupied territories, ‘Prizrak’ (‘Ghost’) brigade commander Aleksey Mozgovoy has been killed in a car blast while driving on the Luhansk-Alchevsk highway, according to LifeNews.

Mozogovoy’s brigade was based in the town of Alchevsk, some 40 kilometers from Luhansk. A few days ago, the Alchevsk city council posted an announcement about the ‘Prizrak’ commander’s readiness to defect to the Ukrainian side along with his brigade and the town garrison in a hope of pardon.

Lately, Mozgovoy had grave disagreements with the ‘LNR’ leadership. He believed the Maidan activists and followers of the so-called ‘Novorossiya’ had to join forces against the Kyiv government and the Ukrainian oligarchy, instead of killing each other. The warlord repeatedly criticized the Minsk Agreements and sought resignation of the ‘LNR’ and ‘DNR’ leadership.

I’m not sure what to make of this story. Good news, or bad? Clearly a fellow who saw no future in the banana republics, but would he have helped the Ukrainian cause?

    • On the Balcony

No, he did not understand that Ukrainians are a distinct people who have chosen a path different from that of Russia.

      • canuke

I’m sure you’re right, or he wouldn’t have gone down the path in the first place. There are those Ukrainians who have seen the light and become great patriots, though. Look at Filaret, the head of the UOC Kyiv Patriachate. I remember him well during Soviet times, and was he ever a Kremlin apologist. He’s cast those demons away many years ago now! Thanks for the reflection!

Good potential, outstanding intuitive reason, yet trapped by delusive ghosts of the Soviet past. Probably, Nestor Makhno reincarnated, always busy sowing chaos out of good intentions.

The so-called LNR and DNR have no future. Dwarf 2 saw to that by stripping factories of anything Dwarfstan can use, and destroying everything else. The population can look forward to mass unemployment and abject poverty. The only sources of money are Kyiv and Dwarfstan but Kyiv will not cough up for territory it does not control- and why should it? As occupier Dwarf 2 should pay, but he doesn’t want to, quite apart from the fact that Dwarfstan’s financial reserves are being depleted at an alarming rate.
Whether Mozgovoy would have helped the Ukrainian cause is irrelevant in my opinion, but his death, if caused by the GRU or KGB, will cause the Kolorads to trust each other even less as time goes by. Trust comes on foot, but departs on horseback. If he had surrendered to Kyiv, he and his direct subordinates would have faced years behind bars, though the rank and file may have received short prison sentences only.

Don’t think so. The article states that he called for NovoRussiya & Maidan to join together against the Kyiv Gov’t and the Oligarchs. We don’t want killers & murderers in a new democracy. He got what he deserved.

I think this warlord like the other terrorist leaders was a coward and seeking a way out … a dead warlord is good news!

    • Milton Devonair

history seems to point in the direction that says, humans are safest when russians are being killed. Eventually enough of them are killed they return to their corrupt cesspool and leave humans alone.
But they come out again, later, and do it again…..

    • Oxen

Cowards do not fight for independence, go figure!

  • John Shirley

Too bad it wasn’t Borodai. Well, better luck next time.

    • Yuriy Yatsyshyn

Borodai sensed a defeat as early as last summer not staying in Donbas any longer. Strangely enough, he says nothing of current “leadership”, but continues a virtual duel with Girkin aka Strelkov, calling him a unpractical madman, and lately an “intellectual”)) Probably, too much into Chekhov’s stories))

    • Dagwood Bumstead

As far as I know Pushilin is still available as a potential target, so are Zakharchenko, Plotnitsky………

  • Vol Ya

Good riddance. One less Russian in Ukraine. This man was responsible for the deaths of many good Ukrainians. May he burn in hell. . We need more of these russian swine to be slaughtered, like the swine that they are.

    • Milton Devonair

Yup, humans are never safe around russians. History shows this time and time again.

  • Murf

    Revolutions eat their young.
It would great if SBU had a hand in this. Either in the bombing or disinformation.
They should spread that around just to mess with the rebels heads.

    • Dagwood Bumstead

Does it really matter whether Mozgovoy was bumped off by the SBU, Ukrainian Commandos, the GRU, FSB,…….? Rejoice, and may the others follow, and the sooner the better. The world is a better place without these thugs.

      • Murf

        Totally agree!
I would just like to see SBU uping their game

        • canuke

Perhaps so, but is it in the Ukrainian soul? We Ukrainians are a lot like Italians: better to live and love, than to war. This hasn’t always served us well!

          • Murf

That truly speaks well for the Ukrainian people.
Regrettably some time societies need the type of people who can “think about the unthinkable.”
Who will doe the dirty deed so we don’t have to.
We get to wave out flags, have embroiderer shirt day, enjoy our Memorial Day cook outs and think happy thoughts.
They get to sift the mud and filth to find the threats and deal with them.
That doesn’t mean you have to be like Russia an glory in the work.
Just understand the need and appreciate their little know sacrifice

  • Yuriy Yatsyshyn

Probably, Mozgovoy, himself being a deluded ethnic Ukrainian, was the brightest of these pro-“Russian” madmen desperately clutching to a crumbling Tartar-Muscovite tradition. One can aspire to win over “Ukrops”, but it’s impossible to stop the berserk warriors of the Kyivan Rus reborn. Impossible to stop the return of the Slavic-Viking folk, when they come back for their due, the fury of Valhalla in their eyes!

But ladies and gentlemen, the true prize would be the assassination of Motorola.
