Donbas, the volunteer battalion of territorial defense of the Donetsk Oblast, has freed the police department in Velyka Novosilka from the corrupt police employees that had sided with terrorists. This development was announced by the battalion’s commander Semen Semenchenko on his Facebook, May 15, as reported by Dzerkalo Tyzhnya.

“The district police department of Velyka Novosilska has been brought under control,” he wrote. “After completing some precautionary measures, employees have sworn allegiance to Ukraine. Tomorrow, together with the volunteer militia, the police will begin to serve. The chief of police has fled in an unknown direction.”

He reported that the local deputies of the Party of Regions and the head of the district council by the name of “Shyra” also had left the territory of Velyka Novosilka.

“We announced to the local population that these individuals would be sought as active separatists. The Ukrainian flag was raised on the flag pole near the district council. The flag of the Donetsk People’s Republic went to the rag pile,” he said.

However, Semenchenko added that on Thursday evening, May 15, he learned that a column of 30 vehicles and buses filled with militants of the Donetsk People’s Republic was on its way.

“I take responsibility for the removal of weapons from the Velyka Novosilka police department and the arming of the volunteer militia. We’re going out to meet the column. If victory is on our side, we will then go to Donetsk,” Semenchenko wrote.
