Russian strikes on 13 January destroyed a shipment of pet food and supplies at a Nova Poshta terminal in Novi Korotych near Kharkiv, Ukrainian animal rescue group UAnimals reported.
The attack killed four people and injured more than 30 at the facility, and also destroyed 230 kilograms of pet food and 100 doses of antiparasitic treatments.
Supplies destined for frontline villages
The supplies had been sent to a volunteer who distributes aid to stray and abandoned animals in frontline villages across Kharkiv Oblast. Many of these cats and dogs have lost their homes due to the war, and the destroyed shipment would have helped feed them.
UAnimals, a Ukrainian organization that evacuates pets from frontline areas, said the strike disrupted its ongoing humanitarian work. Its teams regularly rescue animals from areas under fire, responding to growing numbers of pets injured, abandoned, or trapped in destroyed homes.
The group said it is sending a replacement shipment of food and treatments to continue its relief efforts despite the attack.
Double-tap strike on Kharkiv logistics hub
Russia used a double-strike tactic in the 13 January attack, first hitting the terminal with ballistic missiles, then following up with strike drones. Four Nova Poshta employees were killed, while rescuers pulled 30 people from the rubble.
