He believes that this is due to arrival of new Russian “humanitarian aid convoy” – weapons, ammunition and terrorists have again arrived from Russia. January 9 – Russia hasn’t provided any positive signs about the conflict in Ukraine, thus there are no reasons to lift EU sanctions, – stated Foreign Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius on Friday (“Interfax-Ukraine”). He made this statement a day after EU Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini said that she can see “limited positive signs on behalf of Russia”. Lithuanian Minister has stressed that Russia continues to support armed groups in eastern Ukraine and sends humanitarian convoys, which are not permitted to be inspected by the representatives of Ukraine or the Red Cross. January 9 – Russia became fifth on the list of countries with a high probability of default, ahead of several countries with speculative rating, including Lebanon, Egypt, Portugal. January 9 – Lithuania, United Kingdom, Denmark and Estonia have addressed the European Commission regarding an action plan against Russian propaganda campaign (as stated in a letter by foreign ministers of the four countries, addressed to Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, – reports Delfi.lt). The letter was signed by foreign ministers of Lithuania, the United Kingdom, of Denmark and Estonia Linas Linkevičius, Philip Hammond, Martin Lidegaard and Keit Pentus-Rosimannus. They also warned that “Russia is rapidly expanding its campaign of misinformation and propaganda” in support “of political and military goals of the Russian government”. January 9 – Ukrainian officer Nadiya Savchenko has been on a hunger strike for 28 days and has lost 10 kilograms. Her attorney Mark Feigin wrote this on his Twitter. Savchenko was transfered to a solitary cell: “She was put in a solitary cell due to her hunger strike,” he said. Savchenko is on a hunger strike since December 13th. In Russia she is accused of beinginvolved in the death of Russian journalists. She denies any of these accusations; her defense claims that Savchenko was kidnapped by Russian terrorists and was forcibly taken beyond the territory of Ukraine. In September Savchenko was already held in a solitary cell. At present she is a deputy of Parliament from “Batkivshchyna” Party and a delegate in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.     January 22 – The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov hasn't ruled out offensive operations by the militants in the near future (stated by Turchynov as a result of his visit to the war zone, according to NSDC press-service). "New terminal has been almost completely destroyed, but our Armed Forces have strengthened their positions near the village of Pisky and inflicted a series of very strong assaults", – said Turchynov.

    January 22 – Militants of the terrorist group "People's Republic of Donetsk" have "paraded" captive Ukrainian soldiers along the streets of Donetsk. Abuse of prisoners and torture of prisoners violates Hague Convention on the rules of military operations (The Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907). Abuse of prisoners is punishable under Hague Tribunal. Instead, Ukrainian government is trying to start negotiations on the release of prisoners of war captured at Donetsk airport, – informed NSDC spokesman Andriy Lysenko.

    January 22 – Self-proclaimed leader of Donetsk-based terrorists Oleksand Zakharchenko has said that they intend to "push the frontline" further from Donetsk. It has been previously reported that in September 2014, when explaining the invasion of the city of Novoazovsk and other areas by the militants and disguised Russian soldiers, Russian President Vladimir Putin explained that the main objective of the militants is "pushing the frontline further".

    January 22 – In Donetsk, the terrorists fired at a trolleybus with a mobile mortar, killing seven civilians. The site of the attack is located 20 km from Donetsk airport. For several days now, the terrorists have been travelling around Donetsk in a van with a mortar, shooting at residential areas, trying to encourage the residents to take up anti-Ukrainian views.

    January 22 – During the meeting in Berlin of the heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the countries of the "Normandic foursome," progress was made only regarding one issue of the Minsk agreements. This was written by Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pavlo Klimkin on his page on Twitter. "Yesterday in Berlin there was a Borodino – a diplomatic battle, which no one won or lost. We made one step forward on one point of Minsk agreements," he wrote. According to him, it concerns a ceasefire.

    January 22 – Facts confirm that Russia is directly involved in the army operation in Eastern Ukraine. This was stated by the President of Lithuania, Dalia Hrybauskaite to the Lithuanian journalists during the Davos Forum, writes Delfi.lt. "This is open territorial aggression, carried out not by some terrorists-seperatists, but by Russia itself, because neither the separatists nor some other people can have such weapons. These cannot be bought at the market or on the street; they are very specific – they can only be owned by big countries," she emphasized. "All the more, there are direct indications that not only the weapons, but the army itself (Russian), its subdivisions are involved," said Hrybauskaite. According to her, Russian representatives are openly lying about the situation in Ukraine. "We really see an enormous demonstration of lying when they say one thing and do something totally opposite, when they blame one side, but, it turns out, that the obligations are not being fulfilled by the other (side)," said the President of Lithuania.

    January 4: Militants in Donetsk have again announced curfew restrictions

    January 4 – No Ukrainian military have died, three were wounded in the ATO area in last 24 hours, said deputy NSDC spokesman Volodymyr Polevyi.

    January 4 – Militants in Donetsk have again announced curfew restrictions (these were cancelled for new year holidays). The residents have been warned to carry a passport with them at all times and not to walk the streets of Donetsk after 10 pm.

    January 4 – Situation in the ATO area (Donetsk direction) has significantly deteriorated during the day – illegal armed groups have carried out 22 attacks on Ukrainian military positions.

    January 4 – Someone has tried to set fire to the office of Kherson Charity Foundation "Zakhyst" (community organization supporting the army). The incident is one in a series of attacks on charities and organizations of volunteers supporting Ukrainian Armed Forces in many cities of Ukraine.

    January 4 – There was an explosion at the Coordination center for ATO soldiers in Odessa undermined. According to preliminary information, nobody has died or was wounded. Russian terrorists are trying to expand their activities across Ukraine.

    January 4 – An absolute majority of citizens of Ukraine (88.3%) oppose the unification of their region to Russia; only 3.1% of respondents support this idea.

    This is verified by the results of a sociologigal research which was conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

    The degree of patriotism decreases moving from West to East, if one examines the situation by regions: West (94.0%), Central (98.1%),South (93.3%), East (81.5%). Overall, Kherson and Halychyna scored "zero". Its answer to Nikita Makhalkov was also provided by the "eternally Russian" city of Odesa – 0.0%.

    Analagous figures were elicited by the question whether the citizens would want their region to separate from Ukraine, but to remain independent and not to unite with Russia. Only 2.6% want the independence of their region.
