The Norwegian government will allocate over $118.2 million for the purchase of necessary equipment and armaments for the F-16 fighters, according to UkrInform.

Norway has committed to donating six F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, with deliveries expected to begin in 2024.

The donation is part of the Air Force Capability Coalition, which includes contributions from several NATO allies and aims to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities against Russian air attacks.

Norway has trained Ukrainian pilots since late 2023 and plans to continue this support as the need for enhanced air defense becomes increasingly critical.

The Norwegian government has also emphasized that Ukraine’s struggle is not only about its sovereignty but also about defending shared democratic values and international law.

Ukraine is expected to receive the planes by the New Year, announced Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.

“The first delivery of F-16s from Norway to Ukraine will take place this year,” said the Norwegian minister.

He noted that, in addition to the aircraft themselves, Ukraine will also need components for their support.

“We will assist in financing the purchase of weapon systems for the F-16s, as well as various components for their support. This will involve spending of 1.3 billion Norwegian kroner,” said the Norwegian defense minister.

On 30 October, Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram met with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov in Odesa.

During the meeting, the ministers discussed strengthening air defense systems, providing Ukraine with missile systems, and investing in the Ukrainian defense industry.

“Today, we visited defense industry facilities in Odesa, and I am impressed by how much you have managed to scale up production and by the level of your innovation,” Gram said.

The ministers also visited a military rehabilitation center in Odesa.
