The Kremniy plant in Bryansk, Russia, a major producer of microelectronics, came under drone attack overnight on 19 October, according to reports from Russian local Telegram channels.
This marks at least the fourth time drones have targeted the facility. The plant is known for manufacturing components used in military equipment, including the Pantsir air defense systems and Iskander missile complexes.
According to the Bryansk Oblast governor, a fire broke out as a result of the detonation of an explosive device from a downed drone in the attic of a non-residential building. There were reportedly no casualties.
While local authorities have not explicitly confirmed an attack on the Kremniy plant, residents in the area have reported such an incident.
The Kremniy EL plant is a significant player in Russia’s microelectronics industry. In 2017, 94% of the company’s production was reportedly for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The facility serves major defense industry players such as Almaz-Antey, Aerospace Equipment, Sozvezdie, and Vega consortiums.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that a total of 16 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across Russia, with 13 shot down over the Bryansk Oblast, two over the Rostov Oblast, and one over the Belgorod Oblast.
Ukraine’s Armed Forces have regularly targeted Russian military bases or oil depots in an attempt to downsize Russia’s military potential in its war against Ukraine.
However, Ukrainian officials rarely comment on Russian claims about the alleged attack, and Euromaidan Press can not verify them.
