Russian troops ousted from Krasnohorivka by Ukrainian commandos

On 28 February, the Third Assault Brigade of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported that it had driven Russian troops out of Krasnohorivka near Russian-occupied Mariinka in the Donetsk Oblast (eastern Ukraine), where the Russians had entered the day before. The Third Assault Brigade is an elite unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces that was formed on day one of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022. The Third Assault Brigade took part in a number of heavy battles on the eastern front, including the battle of Avdiivka in the Donetsk Oblast.

"The day before, Russian forces attacked the southeastern part of Krasnohorivka in a massive onslaught and entered the city. To prevent the enemy from gaining a foothold, the units of the Third Separate Assault Brigade, the fighters of the 1st and 2nd assault battalions conducted a combat operation to clear the town of enemy forces. The Russians refused to surrender and were eliminated in the houses they occupied. About 100 Russian occupants were wounded or killed," the report of the Third Assault Brigade stated.

According to the Ukrainian military, in a short period of time, the Russians managed to prepare a solid defense in Krasnohorivka. After heavy fighting, the Ukrainian troops liberated Krasnohorivka. Currently, the town is under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to the Third Assault Brigade. Related:
