Latvian President visits Ukraine to show solidarity and support

On 24 November, Latvia’s President Edgars Rinkēvičs came to Ukraine with an unannounced visit.

Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv and visited several facilities in the Chernihiv Oblast (northern Ukraine) that were being rebuilt at the expense of Latvia.

During the meeting with President Zelenskyy, the President of Latvia discussed bilateral Ukraine-Latvia relations and support for Ukraine from the European Union and NATO.

“Latvia is and always will be a staunch supporter and friend of Ukraine in its fight for freedom,” Edgars Rinkēvičs wrote on Twitter (X).

President Zelenskyy thanked the President of Latvia for visiting the village of Yahidne in the Chernihiv Oblast, where Russian invaders held Ukrainian civilians captive in a basement in inhumane conditions for almost a month in 2022.

“This is just one of the few examples of Russian terror against Ukrainians, but this example is so eloquent in its cruelty that it is absolutely clear what modern Russia has become. We must win here in Ukraine. Otherwise, this evil of aggression may come to the cities and villages of other nations, especially Russia’s neighbors,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a meeting with media representatives following the talks with Edgars Rinkēvičs in Kyiv.

During their meeting in Kyiv, the Presidents of Ukraine and Latvia discussed the continued delivery and production of ammunition and armaments for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
