Denmark pledges long-term support to Ukraine with increased funding

The Danish government and parliamentary majority have agreed to allocate additional funds to the Ukraine Fund created to support Ukraine, the Defense Ministry of Denmark announced.

The Ukraine Fund amounted to 2.3 billion Danish Krones (308 million euros) in 2023 and 23,5 billion Danish Krones (3,15 billion euros) in 2025-2027. According to the Danish Parliament and the Danish Government agreement, the volume of the Ukraine Fund will increase by 10,5 billion Danish Krones in 2025 (almost 2 billion euros), 7,4 billion Danish Krones in 2026 (around 1 billion euros), and 5,6 billion Danish Krones (751 million euros) in 2027.

Thus, a total of 60,4 billion Danish Krones (over 8 billion euros) will be allocated for military support to Ukraine in 2023-2028 under the Ukraine Fund.

The additional funding will also help ensure that Denmark reaches the minimum 2% of GDP defense spending target agreed by NATO member states.

“Throughout the war, Denmark has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine, and when we now step up our support, both in 2023 and with significant funds in 2025-2027, we send a clear message that Ukrainians can count on Denmark’s support in the long term,” Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen commented.

In March 2023, the Danish government and parliament agreed to establish the Ukraine Fund for civilian, military, and economic assistance to Ukraine.

Denmark and the Netherlands lead a coalition of countries that train Ukrainian pilots and support staff. The countries pledged to donate Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets.

In August, eight Ukrainian pilots began training on F-16 combat aircraft in Denmark. The training is taking place at Skridstrup Air Base. In addition, 65 specialists will be trained in the maintenance and repair of this type of aircraft.
