Al Jazeera: Poland charges members of Russian-linked criminal group spying on Polish aid to Ukraine

Poland has charged a group of 16 members of a spy network organized by the Russian intelligence service arrested earlier this year, according to Al Jazeera.

The suspects have been accused of conducting sabotage activities under the direction of Russian intelligence, including documenting trains with military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and preparing for train derailments, said the office of Intelligence service coordinator Mariusz Kaminski.

The sabotage and propaganda acts also aimed to turn Polish sentiment against neighboring Ukraine, Kaminski added.

According to Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, the suspects face 10 years in prison each.

Earlier, Warsaw had announced it planned to cancel assistance to Ukrainian refugees in 2024.

The move had come after the grain dispute between two countries which pushed the tight relationship between Kyiv and Warsaw to its lowest point since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
