Russia hit Ukraine with a combined missile and drone strike overnight, with Kyiv as the main direction, the Air Force reported. The strike — one of the war's largest air attacks — came on the heels of a daytime drone wave. A section of a 9-story Kyiv apartment block was destroyed, with multiple other regions also hit.
A section of a Kyiv apartment block destroyed
In Kyiv's Darnytskyi district, rescuers were still searching the rubble of a destroyed 9-story apartment block section by midday. As of 10:00, two people were confirmed dead, and 28 had been rescued, the Emergency Service said. Thirty-two people were wounded in the capital overall, with 13 hospitalized at the time of reporting. Casualty figures remain preliminary.

Russian forces hit at least 20 civilian sites across five Kyiv districts, the Emergency Service noted. Among the targets were apartment buildings, a school, a veterinary clinic, a parking garage, and an unfinished high-rise.

Rescuers cleared more than 20 cubic meters of rubble and evacuated five damaged cars from a courtyard.

Helicopters were brought in to help fight the fires across the city. On Kyiv's left bank, the water supply was disrupted, Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said.
Russia hits five regions overnight
Russia's drones also struck in Kyiv Oblast, injuring seven people, including a child.

In Kyiv Oblast's Boryspil, southeast of the capital, rescuers evacuated 30 residents from an apartment building, the Emergency Service reported. Five people were wounded in Boryspil, including a child.

Russia also damaged port infrastructure in Odesa, wounding two, the head of Odesa Oblast administration, Oleh Kiper, said.
In the Chernihiv Oblast, a Russian strike on an energy facility left more than 31,000 customers without power. The regional power company confirmed the damage and said restoration would begin once it was safe to do so.

In Kharkiv, a Shahed drone hit the city's Osnovianskyi district, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia also targeted energy infrastructure in central Ukraine's Kremenchuk, as well as port and residential areas in Chornomorsk.
One of the war's largest combined attacks
Ukraine's Air Force says Russia fired 56 missiles and 675 strike drones at Ukraine in the overnight assault. The attack began at 18:00 on 13 May and continued into the morning. The missile salvo included 3 Kh-47 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles launched from Russia's Lipetsk Oblast. Russia also fired 18 Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles from Bryansk and Kursk. Another 35 Kh-101 cruise missiles came from Russia's Vologda Oblast.
Among the drones were Iranian-designed Shaheds, Russian-made Gerberas, Italmas drones, Banderol loitering munitions, and Parodiia decoys. Ukraine's air defenses shot down or suppressed 693 targets — 41 missiles and 652 drones. Fifteen missiles and 23 drones still hit 24 locations across the country. Drone debris also crashed at 18 locations.
The overnight strike alone exceeded several of the war's worst combined attacks. Russia used 619 drones and 47 missiles on 24 April, and 653 drones and 51 missiles on 6 December 2025. On 30 October 2025, Russia deployed 653 drones and 52 missiles. A drone-heavy assault on 7 September 2025 used 810 drones with 13 missiles.
The 14 May overnight strike brought 731 weapons in one window. With the earlier daytime drone wave, the 24-hour total of Russian drones used exceeded 1,400.
The damage to Kyiv's left-bank water supply fits a pattern Zelenskyy warned about in March. The aim, according to parallel official assessments, was to create systemic problems with water supply for civilian communities.
