Russian Uragan MLRS can wipe out city block in 8.8 seconds. Ukraine just destroyed one of its loaders 40 km behind front

Russia learned in 2023 that keeping heavy equipment near the front line was a death sentence. So it moved everything 30–40 kilometers back. Ukraine’s drones followed.

Russian Uragan MLRS can wipe out city block in 8.8 seconds. Ukraine just destroyed one of its loaders 40 km behind front

Ukrainian Lasar’s Group fighters destroyed a concentration of Russian military equipment in a rear-area zone in Luhansk Oblast. Among the targets hit were a 9T452 transport-loader vehicle from the BM-27 Uragan MLRS system, cargo trucks, and a command-and-staff vehicle.

The BM-27 “Uragan” is one of the most dangerous systems in the Russian arsenal, per PSDInfo. Its 9P140 combat vehicle can launch a full complement of rockets in 8.8 seconds, covering entire city blocks, troop concentrations, fuel depots, command posts, and infrastructure.

Footage of the combat operation was published on 9 May on the unit’s official channel. Ukrainian drones struck equipment that Russian forces had attempted to conceal far from the front line.

Russian forces moved equipment 40 km from front, but that no longer guarantees safety

Lasar’s Group stated that, as early as 2023, the Russian army began withdrawing equipment from the front line due to the constant threat posed by strike drones.

“One of the main reasons was the National Guard drone operated by Lasar’s Group, which they nicknamed ‘Baba Yaga,’” the Ukrainian troops said.

The reference appears to be to the heavy Vampire bomber drone.

According to the unit, Russian forces are now attempting to hide equipment 30–40 kilometers from the front, but Ukrainian strike drones are already capable of reaching those distances.

What happens when ammunition vehicle is struck by a drone

In mid-April, analysts and aerial reconnaissance crews from Lasar’s Group identified a concentration of Russian equipment in a rear area of Luhansk Oblast. The coordinates were then passed to the strike UAV operators.

As a result of the attack, a 9T452 transport-loader vehicle from the BM-27 Uragan system and two trucks were destroyed, while an enemy command-and-staff vehicle was damaged.

Russia uses these systems to terrorize frontline towns and carry out mass artillery strikes. Their destruction is a battlefield success and a life-saving action for civilians.

“The enemy was clearly preparing to use the 9T452 during the shelling of Ukrainian positions, because the vehicle was loaded with ammunition,” the unit commented.

But the ‘Lazars’ turned the shells into a spectacular detonation with precise strikes.

The strike on the rear area in Luhansk Oblast once again demonstrated that Russian logistics and military equipment can no longer feel safe even dozens of kilometers from the front line.

The operational range of Ukrainian strike drones continues to grow, while attacks on rear areas increasingly complicate Russian preparations for artillery strikes and troop movements.
