Ukrainian long-range drones struck Yaroslavl, a city located more than 700 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border. The target was the Slavneft-YANOS Novo-Yaroslavl Oil Refinery, one of Russia's largest, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
OSINT analysts from Astra reported that a fire broke out on the refinery’s territory following the attack. This is not the first time drones have struck the facility.
Zelenskyy mentioned the strike in his morning post, meaning that the attack was indeed significant for Ukraine.
Russia celebrates victory over Nazism and strikes kindergartens at same time
Notably, the attack occurred after Russia rejected Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal to maintain a ceasefire with Ukraine starting on 6 May.
After rejecting the proposal, Moscow carried out 1,800 strikes by 10 a.m. on 6 May alone and hit a kindergarten, killing one of its employees.
More than 700 kilometers from border
The Novo-Yaroslavl refinery was commissioned in 1961 and is now among Russia’s largest producers of petroleum products.
The plant processes around 15 million tons of oil annually, making it an important element of Russia’s fuel and military infrastructure.

According to him, drone debris was found in the region. Russian authorities reported no casualties.
Ukraine’s long-range “sanctions” continue hitting infrastructure funding war
“I thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine and our military intelligence for this act of justice. Ukrainian long-range sanctions continue in response to Russian strikes on our cities and villages,” Zelenskyy stated.
Russia must choose real peace, and only strong pressure will ensure that, he claimed.
Attacks on Russian oil refineries in recent months have become one of the main directions of strikes against infrastructure that fuels the Russian military and finances the war against Ukraine.
