Trump claims ongoing “good conversations” with Putin and Zelenskyy, won’t say when

In a Fox News interview, the US president groundlessly reiterated that the personal animosity between the two leaders is the obstacle to peace.

Trump claims ongoing “good conversations” with Putin and Zelenskyy, won’t say when

In a Fox News "Sunday Briefing" interview on 26 April, US President Donald Trump claimed "good conversations" with both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, then declined to give a date for any of them.

Trump has spent more than a year of his second term describing his Ukraine effort as a near-finished negotiation, even as Russia's full-scale invasion has ground into its fifth year with no peace deal or even a ceasefire in sight.

"I don't want to reveal that"

Asked when he had last spoken to Putin, Trump replied:

"I don't want to reveal that, but I do have conversations with him, and I do have conversations with President Zelenskyy, and good conversations," he said, without giving a date for any of the recent calls.

He once again framed the obstacle to a peace deal as a personal grievance between the two presidents.

"Hate is a bad thing. Hate is a bad thing when you're trying to settle something. It'll happen, it'll happen," Trump said.

The only real reason behind the war and the main obstacle to peace is Russia’s imperialist expansionism, which denies Ukraine its right to exist and Ukrainians their national identity.
