Russian drones hit Sumy hospital — 15 injured, three schoolgirls among wounded

Russia launched 143 drones and two Iskander missiles overnight on 21 April. A Sumy medical facility was hit, injuring 15 including three girls; one killed in Kherson, school destroyed in Sloviansk.

Russian drones hit Sumy hospital — 15 injured, three schoolgirls among wounded

Russian forces launched a massed drone attack on Sumy on the night of 21 April, striking a medical facility and damaging residential buildings, with 15 people injured, including three children, local officials report.

Sumy Mayor Artem Kobzar was the first to report the strike on social media. "The enemy continues to attack our city. A series of explosions rang out. More than 5 strikes were recorded in one of the residential courtyard areas of the Zarichny district. Windows were blown out in residential buildings, cars are burning," Kobzar wrote. According to the mayor, one of the healthcare facilities sustained a strike to its roof.

The head of the Sumy City Military Administration, Serhii Kryvosheienko, initially reported four injured. "As a result of the nighttime enemy attack on Sumy, 4 people have preliminarily been injured, including a 17-year-old child: she and two men have been hospitalised. One more person received assistance on the spot," Kryvosheienko stated.

Sumy Oblast police later raised the figure to at least six injured, noting that damage assessments were still underway.

The final count came from the head of the Sumy Oblast Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov. "15 Sumy residents were injured as a result of the nighttime enemy UAV attack. Among the wounded are three children: girls aged 13, 15 and 17. They have been hospitalised, medics are providing the necessary assistance. The majority of those injured in the nighttime Russian drone attack are elderly people," Hryhorov reported.

Kherson: man killed in daytime drone strike

A 54-year-old man was killed in Kherson on the morning of 21 April in a Russian drone strike on the city's Central district, according to the head of the Kherson Oblast Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.

"At approximately 09:30, the Russians killed a utility worker in the Central district of Kherson. The enemy attacked a 54-year-old man with a drone. He sustained wounds incompatible with life," Prokudin reported on Telegram. He later clarified that "the deceased was not an employee of a utility company."

Sloviansk: educational facility destroyed in double airstrike

Russian forces struck Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast twice overnight with guided aerial bombs (FABs), destroying an educational facility and injuring three people, according to the head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration, Vadym Liakh.

"Sloviansk is having a bad morning. Overnight, the enemy attacked our city twice. Airstrikes. FABs. The first time at 23:20, the second at 05:50. Both times the central parts of Sloviansk were hit. An educational facility has been destroyed," Liakh stated.

A woman was hospitalised; her husband and adult son received outpatient care.

Nationwide: 143 drones and two ballistic missiles launched

On the night of 21 April, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 143 strike drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas and other types. Roughly 80 of them were Shaheds, the Air Force Command reports.

According to preliminary data, as of 08:00, air defences shot down or suppressed 116 enemy UAVs across the north, south and east of the country, along with one missile. Strikes by 22 drones were recorded at 17 locations, with debris from intercepted drones falling at a further 7 locations.

Aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine's Defence Forces were involved in repelling the attack. The Air Force noted that the attack is ongoing, with enemy UAVs still in Ukrainian airspace.
