Ukraine downs 57 Russian drones in 12 oblasts overnight

Ukraine’s Air Force reports intercepting 57 Russian Shahed-type drones across twelve oblasts during an overnight attack that began at 22:00 on 22 October.

According to military officials, Russian forces launched 81 attack drones from Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Kursk, as well as an Kh-31P guided missile from the Black Sea targeting the Odesa Oblast.

The air assault was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Air Force and Defense Forces.

The drones were shot down over the oblasts of Odesa, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Sumy, Cherkasy, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv.

As of 09:00, military sources indicate that 15 Russian drones were “locationally lost,” while up to 9 Russian UAVs remained in Ukrainian airspace.

Local authorities report that air defense systems were active overnight in the Kyiv Oblast, though the consequences of the attack have not yet been disclosed.

Officials also confirm drone interceptions over the Sumy Oblast.

Russia continues its deliberate daily air attacks on residential areas in attempts to terrorize civilians and damage civilian infrastructure. While Russian leadership denies targeting civilians, Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify these strikes as war crimes by the Russian Federation, emphasizing their deliberate nature.
