Russia killed at least 16 and injured more than 100 civilians across four cities from the afternoon of 15 April through the morning of 16 April, regional officials and local emergency services reported. Ukraine's Air Force intercepted 667 of 703 incoming missiles and drones over the past afternoon and night, yet 32 still reached their targets, hitting 26 locations.
Kyiv: child among four killed, medics hit while responding
Russia struck four Kyiv districts overnight — Podilskyi, Obolonskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Desnianskyi. The attack killed four and injured 54.

In Podilskyi district, a drone flew very low before striking near an 18-floor apartment building, Mayor Vitalii Klitschko reported. Two people died there: a 12-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman. Russia killed two security guards at a car dealership in the Obolonskyi district.
Among the 54 injured were a 9-year-old boy, three police officers, four paramedics, and two foreigners, the National Police noted. The four paramedics arrived to help the wounded — the follow-up attack injured them too.
The attack damaged 17 apartment buildings and 10 one-family homes across the city. It also hit a hotel, an office center, a car dealership, a gas station, and a shopping center. Kyiv's city prosecutor opened a war crimes investigation under Article 438 Part 2 of the Criminal Code, the office reported.
Odesa: eight killed after morning strike on apartment high-rise
Russia attacked Odesa in two stages. Drones hit the city from 1 a.m. to 2:50 a.m. Two explosions followed at 4:07 and 4:17 a.m. as the Air Force warned of ballistic missiles approaching from the south.

The deadliest impact came in the morning when Russia struck a residential high-rise. The strike destroyed part of the building entirely. Eight people died and the attack injured 16, the Odesa City Military Administration reported. Blast waves blew out facade walls and shattered windows in at least three five-story dormitory buildings. Russia also struck the port infrastructure and warehouses in the city.
Update: The death toll in Odesa rose to nine and the injured to 23, Odesa Oblast Military Administration head Oleh Kiper reported.

Dnipro and Dnipropetrovsk oblast: fires, a protected heritage site, a teenager injured
Russia also struck Dnipro city, killing two and injuring 30, per DSNS. Fourteen people went to hospital, five in serious condition, Oblast Military Administration head Oleksandr Hanzha reported. Fires broke out at residential buildings, garages, vehicles, an educational facility, and a pensioner boarding house.

One strike hit a protected cultural heritage building in Dnipro — for the second time. Russia first damaged the house in late September 2025. The 16 April strike destroyed the original entrance layout, decorative interior elements, and authentic staircase railings. The Cultural Heritage Protection Department of Dnipro reported that those elements had survived the first attack.

Ukraine’s greatest philosopher visited this estate. Russia burned it down 242 years later
In Novooleksandrivska community, a drone struck a private home and injured a 14-year-old girl. Russia attacked Nikopol district, killing one man and injuring three others across three communities and the district center. The attack also damaged a five-floor residential building there. DSNS counted three killed and 34 injured across the Dnipropetrovsk oblast in total.
Kharkiv: gas pipeline severed, two elderly injured
Shahed drones hit Kharkiv across three districts overnight. In Nemyshlianskyi district, a drone struck a road near detached homes, severing a gas pipeline. The strike damaged several detached houses, Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote. Oblast Military Administration head Oleh Synehubov reported two injuries in Nemyshlianskyi: a 66-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman.

In the industrial district, a drone hit near residential buildings and set civilian cars ablaze. In Saltivka district, a drone struck a garden society, sparking a fire in an outbuilding. The blast also broke windows in a nearby apartment building.
Air Force: 703 targets in two waves, 667 shot down
Ukraine's Air Force tracked 703 targets overnight — 19 ballistic missiles, 25 cruise missiles, and 659 Shahed-type drones in two waves. Russia used Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, Kh-101 and Iskander-K cruise missiles, plus Shahed, Herbera, and Italmas drones.
Air defense forces shot down 667 of them. 12 missiles and 20 attack drones still hit 26 locations. Debris from downed weapons reached 25 additional sites, the Air Force reported.
Russia's use of ballistic missiles alongside mass drone swarms strains Ukraine's limited interceptor stocks. Only Patriot and SAMP/T systems can intercept ballistics — leaving cities exposed when those assets are unavailable or overwhelmed.
