Kyiv strikes back: Ukraine names its new 1,400 km drone after month in winter which Russia hits hardest

Ukraine showcased a new strike UAV, “Sichen” or January, with a reported range of up to 1,400 km, according to Militarnyi.

The system was presented at an updated weapons exhibition organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the Day of the Defense Industry Worker on 13 April, with foreign diplomats in attendance.

UAV designed to strike deep into battlefield

According to the displayed specifications, the “Sichen” UAV is intended for targeting high-value assets, critical infrastructure, and enemy concentrations.

It is designed to operate in conditions of active electronic warfare and perform missions in both day and night operational environments.

1,400 km range defines new strike threshold

The platform reportedly has a maximum range of 1,400 km and a strike accuracy of around 20 meters.

It carries a 40 kg warhead, reaches speeds of up to 200 km/h, and can operate at altitudes of up to 1,500 meters.

Preparation time for launch is said to be under 15 minutes, making it suitable for rapid deployment.

Ukraine’s weapons exhibition evolves into “next-generation warfare catalog”

Compared to previous years, the exhibition has significantly expanded, featuring systems such as the RK-360 Neptun, AREION, and “Flamingo”, along with UAVs like Buntar-3, GOR, “Sichen”, and “Sova-150”.

Also displayed were Octopus and STING interceptor drones, the LTEJ Mirage electronic warfare system, and mockups of Ukrainian MANPADS.

The exhibition highlights Ukraine’s transition toward an integrated model in which missiles, drones, and electronic warfare systems operate as a unified, multi-layered strike-and-defense ecosystem.

Earlier, journalists identified a new surface-to-air missile known as "Koral" for the first time at the defense exhibition. Its development has been underway for several years as part of Ukraine’s ground-based air defense systems, with potential additional capabilities that may also support counterintelligence-related missions.

The reported specifications include a mass of around 300 kg, a 25 kg warhead, and a speed of up to 3,600 km/h. The missile is said to be capable of engaging some ballistic targets.
