The US Department of Defense announced a landmark seven-year agreement with Boeing to triple production capacity for the guidance heads of PAC-3 MSE Patriot interceptor missiles, Pentagon reports.
Ukraine is dependent on American supplies of PAC-3 missiles, as it's the only weapon Kyiv has to intercept Russia's ballistic missiles. The country receives the missiles through the PURL initiative funded by NATO.
Meanwhile, the war in the Middle East drains resources allocated to NATO’s core missions, supporting Ukraine and preparing for a potential conflict with Russia. In April, Kyiv's partners will reportedly decide to which side to send these missiles - its Middle East allies or Ukraine.
“Arsenal of Freedom”: Pentagon’s strategic vision
The agreement represents a key step in realizing President Donald Trump’s and Secretary of Defense Pete Gerges’ vision of an "Arsenal of Freedom", accelerating the delivery of critical components to the military while creating thousands of jobs across the defense industrial base.
Tripling PAC-3 production: coordination with Lockheed Martin
This seven-year deal with Boeing, the manufacturer of a critical component for PAC-3 interceptors, follows a recent agreement with Lockheed Martin to more than triple overall PAC-3 MSE production.
How Patriot missile guidance heads work
Boeing-produced guidance heads provide active measurement data used to steer PAC-3 MSE missiles, ensuring precise target interception.
"To build a true Arsenal of Freedom, we must strengthen every link in the chain," said Michael Duffey, Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment.
Earlier, Euromaidan Press reported that Trump's administration officials allegedly began warning allies that American weapons supplies to Ukraine could be interrupted in the coming months. The Pentagon may prioritize its use for the war in Iran.
